The Inspector General of Police and the Minister of Police Affairs have been urged to take the required actions to enhance the nation’s security situation by the Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs.
The minister and the Inspector General appeared before the joint session of the committee in Abuja to defend the 2024 budget, and this is what the committee, which is co-chaired by Abdulhamid Madori and Abubakar Yalleman, said.
According to the committee, every government’s top priority should be ensuring the safety of people and property, which is why the Nigerian police must perform to the highest standards.
Yalleman said that the NASS would take the appropriate action to make sure that the steps were taken to improve the performance of the Nigeria Police.
“We will do justice to the budget and ensure that our police force and all supporting institutions are able to function as effectively and efficiently as possible,” he said.
Ibrahim Gaidam, the Minister of Police Affairs, stated that the ministry was collaborating with the police and other organizations to guarantee that they fulfilled their responsibilities of maintaining internal security.
The minister mentioned that money was one of the main issues the police were having.
In a same spirit, Nigeria Police, led by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, declared that they were committed to permanently altering the story.
The ideal police force, he continued, would be stationed to combat crime and criminals in all of the nation’s different areas.
He expressed hope that the country’s security will increase with the backing of the National Assembly and the people as a whole.
