“I’m the Only Certified Musician in My Family” – Peter Okoye

• Peter Okoye, the former member of the defunct P-Square duo, has claimed to be the only certified musician in his family.

• Mr P, now known as Peter, at a recent AY Live event, attributed the group’s split to fans’ frequent comparisons between him and his twin brother, Paul Okoye.

Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P and formerly one-half of the iconic P-Square duo, has shared new insights into the group’s breakup while asserting his position as the only formally trained musician in his family.

Speaking during a recent performance at the AY Live show, Mr P addressed the long-standing comparisons between him and his twin brother, Paul Okoye. He claimed that fans’ constant pitting of the two against each other often favoring Paul played a major role in their eventual split.

According to Peter, the favoritism directed at Paul boosted his ego and led to what he described as “misbehavior” that ultimately strained their professional relationship.

Dispelling the notion that he lacked talent, Mr P highlighted his versatility, noting that he can sing, dance, and play both the piano and the guitar talents he feels have often been overlooked.

Mr P said: “I have sung and danced but they told you I am talentless. I will prove myself today. The reason P-Square split was because two brothers were doing their thing and some fans started saying one was more talented than the other and it got into his head and he started misbehaving.

“They lied to you. In the whole of Okoye’s family, I’m the only one with music certificate. I read music. But they lied to you. I know the liars but let’s leave it. I have sang, danced and played the piano and the guitar, is it easy?”
