Popular Nigerian comedian Seyi Law, who has been vocal in his support for President Bola Tinubu, has shifted his position regarding the state of security in the country.
The entertainer recently faced backlash after claiming that Nigeria is safer now than it was a decade ago, despite ongoing reports of terrorist attacks and widespread kidnappings in different parts of the nation.
His remark triggered strong reactions on social media, with many Nigerians accusing him of downplaying the current security challenges because of his perceived ties to the ruling government.
Following the wave of criticism, Seyi Law shared an apology video on Instagram, admitting that his earlier statement was insensitive and acknowledging the concerns raised by members of the public.
“My fellow Nigerians, I owe you this & more. I’m sincerely sorry for such an insensitive statement that I made on the Honest Bunch podcast. I’m not someone who would be too proud or very insensitive to apologize when he makes mistakes.
“I had looked at that statement and I think it is quite insensitive to those who have had an issue with kidnapping, relatives been killed and all that. I want to sincerely and unreservedly tender an apology to those who that statement has hurt. I believe that statement is very insensitive”, he said.
He also urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize the safety and security of Nigerians, emphasizing the need for stronger measures to address the country’s ongoing security challenges.
