Nollywood actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has revealed his decision to back a Northern candidate in the 2027 presidential race.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Okonkwo expressed strong doubts about the ability of any Southern politician to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the next election.
He argued that offering the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket solely to a candidate from the South would amount to handing Tinubu an easy victory.
According to him, the only viable path to challenging Tinubu’s re-election lies in supporting a Northerner with widespread backing from the region. He emphasized that such a candidate would be better positioned to consolidate votes and build the momentum needed to defeat the incumbent.

“My own strategy is that I am going to support a northerner in 2027. My condition to the northerners is that it must be a northerner that the whole North would be willing to support…the person must be qualified, have the experience and if he has experience in the presidency, it’s an added advantage…”
