Popular Nigerian singer Peter Okoye has revealed that he almost pursued a professional football career before becoming famous in the music industry.
Okoye, one-half of the legendary music duo P-Square, shared the revelation in a recent post on his Instagram page while reflecting on his early years.
According to the singer, he once trained at the Pepsi Football Academy in Jos, where his football career was progressing well at the time. He said he was even offered the opportunity to play professionally for Plateau United F.C..
Okoye explained that he was balancing both football and music during that period, although his dream was to eventually play football in Europe.
The singer also shared a nostalgic video featuring former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel, noting that they were once teammates during their junior football days.
Despite the opportunity to join Plateau United, Okoye said circumstances eventually led him away from football and toward music.
Reflecting on the journey, the singer said destiny ultimately guided him to the microphone, a path that later made him a successful artiste.
“Never give up! Yes, I used to play football and chase music at the same time. I was even offered the chance to play for Plateau United from Pepsi Academy back then in Jos. But my dream was always to play in Europe,” he wrote.
“Somehow, destiny chose the mic instead. Today, I’m an established and successful artiste. That’s nothing but grace.”
