Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has spoken openly about some of the difficulties she faced at the start of her acting journey.
In a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, she revealed that one of her earliest challenges was being offered scripts with extreme and unrealistic scenes. She recounted being handed a script that required her to “sleep with a dog,” a role she immediately declined because of the long-term effect it could have on her reputation.
According to her:
“Despite being a newcomer, I was given a script to sleep with a dog. I rejected it because I can’t start off my career like that. Imagine my first ever movie, I am sleeping with a dog. It doesn’t make sense. It is going to be a tag because whatever you start with is what people would associate you with. I didn’t want to be renowned as someone who sleeps with dogs in movies.
“So, I rejected that script. But immediately I threw it down, so many girls grabbed it. I’m not sure any of them are in the limelight today.”
Nkechi added that after walking away from that production, she crossed paths with veteran filmmaker Emeka Duru, who expressed interest in working with her. That meeting eventually led to her first role in “Through The Fire,” produced by Emem Isong, marking her official entry into Nollywood.
