Talented singer David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, has revealed that, contrary to common opinion, his father’s money did not help him succeed in the music industry.
While answering questions on the American podcast “Business Untitled,” he made the remark and stated that individuals with more affluent backgrounds than his had not found success.
He noted that many people have attempted to carve out a career in the entertainment industry, but few have been as successful as him.
Davido admitted that his father’s money was his most difficult challenge when he initially began his career as a musician, but he was finally accepted.
He claimed that his brilliance and expertise in his area had enabled him to be welcomed, claiming that if he hadn’t been competent, people would not have embraced him.
Davido said:
“There are many billionaires in Nigeria, even richer than my father… And there are people [billionaire’s children] who have tried to do what I have tried to do: music, entertainment, business. But mine has been successful because of my values.
The biggest challenge I had when I started music was that my father is wealthy. But I got accepted for one reason and that reason is that I am good, talented. I don’t think I would have ever been accepted if I wasn’t good at what I do.”
