Popular Nigerian artist Iyanya has shared insights into his ongoing challenge with maintaining celibacy, admitting that his resolve often falters when he encounters attractive women.

Speaking openly on the Afropolitan podcast, the singer behind the hit track Ur Waist revealed that he frequently regrets breaking his celibacy, yet finds it difficult to remain consistent.

“My celibacy is not steady; it goes up and down. Sometimes, you try to stay celibate, and then you meet someone who gives you every reason not to. You give in, and afterward, you find yourself longing for celibacy again,” he confessed.

The 39-year-old also noted that marriage is not on his immediate horizon, as he feels he is not yet mentally prepared for that step.

“I am not thinking of getting married… So, I am very honest when I meet people now. I think that is what has helped me a lot. When I meet you I don’t go, ‘Oh! I’m crazy about you.’ When I meet you I go, ‘Listen, I’m healing. Don’t expect so much from me.’

“Maybe, when I was younger, I wouldn’t mind, I would just say what you want to hear. But now what has really helped me a lot is just saying, ‘I’m not in that space and I’m not going to lie to you or play with your emotions’,” he added.
