Nigerian gospel artist Akinade Ibuoye, widely known as Gaise Baba, has opened up about his struggles with maintaining sexual purity and overcoming pornography addiction before rising to prominence in the music ministry.
In a candid conversation with Chude Jideonwo, the singer revealed that although he and his wife both waited until marriage to engage in sex, his journey wasn’t without challenges. Gaise Baba admitted to encountering pornography at the age of 15, which eventually led to an addiction despite his early commitment to staying sexually pure.
“I married as a virgin, and so did my wife. But it wasn’t easy getting there,” he said. “I was just 15 when I started watching explicit content. At some point, I made a vow—a covenant of purity not to have sex until marriage. I even signed it and took it to my pastor. Ironically, not long after that, I fell into addiction. I realized that any man, under the right circumstances, can stumble.”
The gospel singer also shared the emotional timing of his breakthrough hit, No Turning Back, featuring Lawrence Oyor. Released in 2025, the song marked a pivotal moment in his career.
“That season everyone is talking about started just two weeks after my mom died,” he recalled. “The fame came when I wasn’t even chasing it anymore.”
