“I Lived Like a Widow in My Own Home”- Woman Recounts Hunger, Humiliation, and Abuse in Marriage

A woman has shared a harrowing account of alleged abuse, neglect, and hardship in her matrimonial home, recounting how she struggled daily to provide food for her children amid what she described as her husband’s indifference.

Speaking anonymously, the woman said she was forced to move from one house to another begging for food to keep her children alive. Despite enduring insults and humiliation from people, she said she remained determined to ensure her children did not go hungry.

She further narrated a disturbing incident in which she returned home after fetching water, only to find women allegedly sent by her husband waiting to confront her inside her matrimonial room. According to her, the attack took place on her marital bed, which she described as a space meant to be shared by her family.

The woman claimed that although she was married, she lived “like a widow” in her own home, alleging that her husband had completely abandoned his responsibilities. She said the emotional strain left her confused, distressed, and constantly worried about the survival of her children.

In an emotional account, she said she had no choice but to beg for food to prevent her children from starving, adding that public ridicule did not matter to her as long as her children could eat.
