Veteran Nollywood actress Laide Bakare recently shared her perspective on romantic relationships.

Speaking on a television program hosted by fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, Bakare discussed her views on dating and cohabitation.

When asked why she does not allow men she dates to stay in her home before marriage, she clarified that she has never done so and has no intention of changing this practice. She explained that her feelings toward men are more about admiration, respect, and fondness rather than romantic love in the conventional sense.

Bakare also outlined her expectations regarding marriage. She emphasized that any prospective husband must adhere to traditional customs, including paying her bride price, and take on the full responsibilities that come with marriage.

She mentioned that she prefers visiting a man’s home rather than having him live with her before marriage. For her, marriage involves the man taking full responsibility and bringing his wife into his household after the wedding.

She said: “I don’t love but like, appreciate and respect men. I have never accommodated a man in my home before and I will never do it. A man who wants to marry me should pay my bride price. I prefer spending time in the man’s house rather than accommodating him in my home. A man should be responsible. He should pay my bride price and take me home.”
