- Speaking during an X Space, Obi dismissed claims of defection or special concessions in his favor, emphasizing collective collaboration within the coalition.
- He also reaffirmed his respect for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, despite possible political rivalry ahead of 2027.

Following his confirmation of a 2027 presidential bid, Peter Obi has clarified the nature of his relationship with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Speaking during an X Space on Sunday night, the former Labour Party candidate addressed rumors regarding a formal “defection” or “joining” ceremony.
Obi explained that he has been a foundational part of the burgeoning opposition coalition, which includes the ADC, for a significant period.
Obi dismissed the idea that he is a newcomer to the ADC platform, describing himself as an integral member of the strategic partnership between various political entities.
“I am not joining ADC. I can’t re-join what I am already a part of. I’ve been part of the coalition from day one.”
Addressing further speculation that other heavyweights within the coalition—or the party itself—might be stepping aside for him, Obi insisted that the focus is on a collaborative effort rather than individual concessions at this stage.
He also took a moment to address his relationship with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, his running mate in 2019, maintaining a tone of diplomatic respect despite their current potential rivalry.
“Nobody is stepping down for me in ADC. We have all agreed to work together and Atiku remains my respected leader.”
