- Peter Obi has officially confirmed that he will contest the 2027 presidential election, ruling out any plan to run as a vice-presidential candidate.
- Speaking during an X Space conversation, the former Anambra governor said his experience in business and governance positions him to lead Nigeria’s transformation, and he urged supporters to remain committed to the vision of a New Nigeria.

Former Anambra State Governor and the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has officially put an end to months of speculation by confirming his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during a late-night X (formerly Twitter) Space conversation on Sunday, December 28, 2025, Obi dismissed suggestions that he might serve as a running mate to another candidate, specifically addressing rumors of a joint ticket with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Obi emphasized that his goal is to lead the nation’s transformation, asserting that his vast experience in both the private sector and governance makes him overqualified for a secondary role.
“I am not traveling round the world to learn governance to be Vice president. I know how to turn Nigeria around. I built my business from scratch and have more experience than any candidate, including the sitting President.”
Confirming his presence on the ballot, Obi appealed to his supporters popularly known as the “Obidients” and the wider Nigerian electorate to stay committed to the vision of a “New Nigeria.”
“Peter Obi will be on the ballot in 2027. I need your support. I need your prayers.”
