Veteran Nollywood actor Zack Orji has stirred reactions online after publicly defending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu amid ongoing debates about Nigeria’s economic challenges.

In an interview with KaaTruths, Orji criticised Nigerians who frequently blame the government for the rising cost of living. He argued that many people rely too heavily on social media narratives without properly understanding the broader economic realities.

According to him, the reforms introduced by Tinubu’s administration are beginning to yield positive results. He claimed that prices of essential food items such as rice and beans are slowly coming down, insisting that the country is gradually improving despite public disagreement.

When asked about the reality of widespread hardship and hunger, the actor maintained that hunger is not a new issue in Nigeria. He described it as a global challenge that predates the current administration.

He said:

“Hunger has been an international problem over the years and it didn’t start today.”

Orji also dismissed a significant portion of online information, describing it as misleading and often driven by negativity. He likened it to spreading damaging narratives meant to tarnish reputations.

The actor further recounted an experience from a recent visit to the United Kingdom, where he said some Nigerians confronted him over his support for President Tinubu.

He said:

“Why won’t I support the president of my country if I am convinced he is doing things in the right way and willing to be patient and allow him time. Reforms are not easy, but a lot of Nigerians don’t do research.”

He further maintained that economic reforms are usually difficult at the beginning but tend to produce better outcomes over time. According to him, there are early signs of progress, including a gradual reduction in food prices and improved stability of the naira since Tinubu assumed office.
