Comedian Deeone has voiced criticism of former presidential candidate Peter Obi following the February 24, 2026 incident in Benin City, Edo State.

Reports indicate that gunmen in Sienna vehicles allegedly followed Obi’s convoy from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretariat to the home of former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun.

Eyewitnesses say the attackers fired at the convoy upon arrival, hitting the estate gate and damaging several vehicles. Obi was reportedly inside the residence at the time and was unharmed.

The visit was reportedly a political engagement, during which Obi welcomed former Labour Party governorship candidate Olumide Akpata and his supporters into the ADC.

In response to the attack, Deeone questioned the motives behind the incident, hinting that it might have been politically orchestrated or staged to generate sympathy ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said …

“Peter obi, you cannot win this 2027 election with sympathy, it might have worked in 2023 but not this time. How are we sure it wasn’t one of your people that did it? How’re we sure it’s not one of your cheap publicity? I believed in you before now it’s looking like you’re chasing clout, yesterday na groundnut, today na bull£t…”
