A former student of Abia State University has narrated an alleged case of sexual harassment involving a lecturer during her 200-level studies.

Speaking anonymously, she claimed the incident happened after a departmental test when she was summoned to the lecturer’s office.

According to her, the lecturer first commended her academic performance but later allegedly made inappropriate advances and suggested that her grades could be influenced by her response to him.

The account has reignited concerns about abuse of authority in higher institutions and the challenges faced by female students in academic settings.

“During my 200 level at Abia State University, I had a lecturer who clearly had his eyes on me. After one of his tests, almost everyone got an F or D, but I got a C. He called me, praised me, then tried to touch me. I stood up and told him I wasn’t comfortable. He asked if I didn’t want an A, and I said I would earn it the right way,” she said.

She further alleged that after she rejected his advances, the lecturer threatened her with failing the course, a warning she initially did not take seriously.

However, when the results were later released, she claimed she ended up carrying the course alone among her classmates.

“He threatened me that I would carry over his course if I didn’t cooperate. I thought he was bluffing, but I ended up with a carryover. I cried so much that day. I had decided never to give in, but he later died in a car accident. It was tragic, but I felt relieved,” she added.
