A first-class Nigerian graduate and his parents died within weeks in a heartbreaking chain of events, leaving their community in shock and sparking discussions on grief and mental health.

A Nigerian community has been thrown into mourning after a young graduate and both his parents died within weeks in a series of tragic events.

The graduate, described as a brilliant first-class student, had completed his studies and was preparing for his service year. He had also secured admission for a master’s programme in the United States through his uncle.

According to an eyewitness, the young man lost his life in a fatal accident while travelling to Abuja to complete documentation for the programme.

“He died on the spot. He was our coursemate and one of the brightest. It was devastating news for his family,” the eyewitness said.

The tragedy worsened when his father reportedly died immediately after receiving the news.

“When his father received the news, he slumped and died instantly,” the eyewitness added.

Weeks later, the young man’s mother also reportedly took her own life after ingesting poison, deepening the loss within the family.

All three were eventually buried on the same day, leaving friends and neighbours in shock.

“On the day of their burial, vanity stopped being a scripture. It became a story I witnessed,” the eyewitness said.

The incident has sparked conversations around grief, mental health, and the need for stronger emotional support systems for families facing sudden loss.
