An old video showing Monday Okpebholo allegedly threatening the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has resurfaced online.

The governor reportedly gave the warning on July 18, 2025, during a political event in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

In the 58-second video currently circulating on social media, Okpebholo could be heard warning Obi against entering the state without informing him in advance.

He said, “The man wey say he no get shishi, I am sending a direct message to him, there is a new sheriff in town. He cannot come to Edo State without telling me because his security will not be guaranteed.

“Whatever happens to him in Edo State, he will take it. I am serious about this”.

The clip resurfaced on Tuesday following an alleged ass@ssination attempt on Obi and other leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.

The politicians reportedly came under gunfire attack at the residence of former Edo State governor and current ADC chairman in the state, John Odigie Oyegun.

According to a viral video recorded after the incident, windscreens and parts of Obi’s motorcade were damaged by bullets.

Reacting online, some netizens linked the incident to the governor’s earlier remarks, warning that nothing should happen to the former Anambra State governor.

An X user, @Victorfelix047, wrote, “On the 19th of July 2025. @Gov_Okpebholo threatened Peter Obi. Today being 24 February 2026 an Assssination attempt was targeted at Peter Obi and his team while in EDO state.

“I hope people beating the drum for him will protect him when he is out of power if anything happens to Obi”.
