The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 53-year-old lecturer, Abdulfatai Aiyede, whose body was discovered in the residence of a young woman in Minna.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, said Aiyede travelled from Bida to Minna to visit a 25-year-old nursing student identified as Stella Joseph.
In a statement issued on Friday, January 30, Abiodun disclosed that the incident occurred on January 27, 2026. According to the police, Stella allegedly served Aiyede a meal during the visit, after which he reportedly began to convulse and suddenly collapsed.
“The Niger State Police Command wishes to confirm that on 27/1/26 at about 10am, report received from Tudun-Wada Div indicated that one Abdulfatai Aiyede of about 53yrs of age came to Minna from Bida, and visited a friend identified as Stella Joseph aged 25yrs at Niteco road Tunga, Minna,” the statement read.
“During the visit, it was reported that Stella served her guest some food, later allegedly convulsing and collapsing. The victim was later taken to the General Hospital where he was confirmed d3ad.”
Abiodun added that Stella Joseph has been arrested, while the deceased’s body is undergoing examination to determine the cause of death. He noted that the families have been contacted and investigations are ongoing.
“The case is under investigation. Further development will be communicated, please,” the statement concluded.
