In other news……. A faction within the Labour Party (LP) has voiced deep regret over its decision to present Peter Obi as the party’s presidential flagbearer in the 2023 general election, calling the move a “costly mistake.”

Speaking on Friday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, stated that the LP overlooked competence and national unity in favor of mere popularity by selecting Obi instead of Faduri Oluwadare Joseph. He described Oluwadare as a disciplined, visionary professional with a strong national outlook.

“In choosing Obi, we betrayed Nigeria’s sincere hope for transformation,” Arabambi said. “Rather than offer a leader with a solid plan for national development, we put forward a populist who simply echoed what people wanted to hear.”

He criticized the party for prioritizing mass appeal over substance and argued that Oluwadare possessed the leadership qualities and broad vision the nation truly needed.

Arabambi also described the 2023 election as a wake-up call for the party, vowing that future selections would emphasize credibility and national interest as the party looks ahead to 2027.

He further condemned Obi’s campaign for allegedly fueling ethnic divisions and promoting regional sentiments.

“The most troubling aspect of Obi’s campaign was how it contributed to ethnic polarization,” he remarked. “Unlike Obi, Faduri represented a unifying national figure.”

Arabambi also took issue with Obi’s silence on pressing national matters, particularly the activities of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, accusing him of only speaking out when politically convenient.

As the Labour Party prepares for the next election cycle, Arabambi assured Nigerians that his faction will prioritize unity, integrity, and visionary leadership going forward.
