Jeremiah Obaji, a 37-year-old businessman from Ebonyi, has been rewarded with ₦10 million by Governor Francis Nwifuru after trekking 633 kilometers from Lagos to Abakaliki.

Obaji began the 17-day journey on August 22 to show support for the governor’s peace efforts in the troubled Effium/Ezza-Effium community. Armed with just two T-shirts and a pair of shoes, he traveled by day and rested in villages at night.

Arriving in Abakaliki on Sunday, Obaji was received by the governor’s Chief of Staff, Emmanuel Echiegu, who commended his resilience before presenting the cash reward. Obaji said he was motivated by the governor’s commitment to restoring peace in the state.

He said: “My community was in a serious crisis. Many lives were lost, and properties were destroyed. I trekked to Abakaliki to thank Governor Nwifuru for restoring peace.”

Mr. Obaji’s media aide, Wisdom Nwedene, also lauded Governor Nwifuru for his efforts in restoring peace and stability to the troubled community.

“The large turnout welcoming Jeremiah Obaji demonstrates how much Ebonyians value peace and the governor’s leadership.”
