Evangelist Kesiena Esiri, the founder of Remnant Christian Network, has weighed in on the recent tattoo controversy involving Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo of David Christian Centre (DCC).
Pastor Okonkwo drew public attention after getting a tattoo on his arm, a move that sparked criticism from some quarters. Responding to the backlash, he dismissed his critics, emphasizing that they were not the ones God called him and that his mission is to challenge the constraints of religion on young people.
During a church service, Evangelist Esiri defended Okonkwo’s decision, asserting that getting a tattoo is not inherently sinful. He explained that the passage in Leviticus 19:28, which cautions against marking the body, was specifically directed at the Israelites to distinguish them from pagan practices.
Esiri also stressed the importance of exercising moderation as a church leader, particularly in actions that might confuse or offend less mature Christians. He drew a parallel with Christians consuming Sallah meat, noting that while it is not sinful, some believers may find it objectionable, and criticized those who waste the meat by discarding it.
He concluded by reminding believers that while the Bible clearly outlines core moral principles, consideration should be given to those who are spiritually weaker and may not fully grasp the reasoning behind certain choices.
