The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended a 40-year-old man, Yahaya Saleh, for allegedly offering a bribe of ₦1.5 million to police officers in an attempt to secure the release of a kidnapping suspect under investigation.
According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrest was made during a covert operation carried out by the Scorpion Squad. The team is currently investigating a kidnapping ring believed to be active within the FCT and nearby regions.
Saleh is said to have approached the officers involved in the case with the monetary offer, hoping to derail the investigation and obtain the suspect’s freedom. His attempt, however, was swiftly rejected by the officers, who proceeded to take legal action against him.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, commended the personnel for their professionalism and commitment to ethical standards. He emphasized the command’s resolve to combat corruption and ensure justice prevails.
Investigations into the wider kidnapping network remain ongoing.
