Favour Michael Kanu, wife of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, has appealed to Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja to ensure her husband does not d!e in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
In an open letter to the judge, Mrs Kanu expressed concern over her husband’s worsening health and dismissed the medical report submitted by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) panel, calling it “disjointed and unethical.” She alleged the report was produced by the DSS rather than the independent panel the court had ordered.
She urged Justice Omotosho to permit Kanu to receive treatment at another hospital within Abuja, stressing that the DSS clinic was poorly equipped and that his condition continued to decline.
“When your Lordship took over Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case in March 2025, I believed justice was finally at hand, having read about your impeccable reputation. However, with the recent happenings in court, I can only wonder if those attributes were exaggerated,” she wrote.
Mrs Kanu accused the court of delays and indecision, describing it as a deliberate plan to stall the case while her husband remains in detention. She also recalled that Kanu was “tortured and subjected to inhumane treatment” after being “illegally brought back to Nigeria from Kenya.”
Questioning why he is denied proper medical care, she added: “Even the President and Commander-in-Chief seek foreign medical care because they lack faith in Nigeria’s system. Why then should my husband be confined to the same DSS facility that contributed to his ill health?”
Concluding her letter, she wrote: “You once said Nnamdi Kanu must be alive and healthy to stand trial. What changed, Your Lordship? Why is his life not being taken seriously? My husband has been gravely victimized for too long.”
