Falana Raises Alarm as Dangote Fuel Sells Cheaper in Togo Than Nigeria

  • Femi Falana (SAN) has called on the federal government to review its proposed 5% fuel surcharge, warning against multiple taxation and added hardship for Nigerians.
  • Speaking on Politics Today, he noted concerns that Dangote fuel exported from Nigeria is reportedly ₦65 cheaper in Togo than in Nigeria.

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has raised concern over reports that Dangote fuel is being sold cheaper in Togo than in Nigeria.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, he urged the federal government to reconsider the proposed 5 per cent fuel surcharge to avoid worsening the hardship already faced by Nigerians.

“I guess the government wants to go back to the drawing table and ensure that it is not accused of multiple taxes or double taxation because consumers will pay VAT for buying fuel. They will now put an additional 5 per cent tax.

“I think this is what Nigerians are complaining about. And from what we just read today is that the Dangote fuel taken from Nigeria is now cheaper in Togo than in Nigeria I think about 65 naira.

“So, the government will have to review these developments (the proposed 5 per cent fuel surcharge) and ensure more hardship is not imposed on Nigerians,” he said.

In other news…., Sosoliso plane crash survivor and singer, Kechi Okwuchi, has undergone yet another surgery, this time on her eyelid.

The America’s Got Talent finalist, who has endured about 140 surgeries since the tragic December 10, 2005 crash that claimed 106 lives, including those of 60 of her schoolmates, shared the update on Sunday, September 14.

Posting photos of herself on a hospital bed just three days after the operation, Kechi radiated strength and positivity as always. She explained that the procedure was necessary because the skin around her eyelids had become too tight, making it difficult for her to blink or close her eyes properly.

“Currently 3 days post-op from eyelid surgery. The skin on my eyelids is tight, making me unable to close my eyes or blink properly, which started to affect my eyesight, hence the need for surgery. My last surgery was in 2019 so it’s kinda weird to be back here after so long lol,” she wrote.
