  • Former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo celebrated his 89th birthday recently.
  • The celebration featured a grand event with numerous high-profile guests in attendance.
  • Clips from the birthday celebration are widely circulating on social media.

More clips from the birthday celebration of former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo have continued to circulate widely on social media, drawing reactions from many Nigerians.

The elder statesman recently celebrated his 89th birthday with a grand event attended by several high-profile guests from across the country.

Among those present was popular entertainer Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy or Area Fada. He arrived at the celebration carrying a golden box, which he presented as a gift to the former president.

Another moment that caught attention online involved legendary juju musician Ebenezer Obey, who was invited to perform at the celebration.

In one of the trending videos, Obasanjo appeared visibly excited when he spotted the veteran singer. He quickly moved toward the stage to greet him and nearly lost his balance in the process.

As he stumbled, his aides and even a cameraman nearby rushed in to support him and help him regain his footing before he continued toward the musician.

After reaching the stage, Obasanjo warmly embraced Obey and brought out a bundle of naira notes, which he handed to the singer as he performed.

The two men held hands briefly while the music icon sang in honour of the former president and celebrated his birthday. Obasanjo also joined in singing for a short moment before stepping away from the stage.

Meanwhile, social media users also commented on the outfit worn by the celebrant during the event. In the video, Obasanjo appeared in trousers paired with a cap commonly associated with the Hausa culture, along with an Isiagu top a lion-head patterned shirt traditionally linked to the Igbo people.

Some observers suggested that the combination of the Hausa cap, Igbo attire, and Obasanjo’s Yoruba heritage symbolised unity among Nigeria’s three major ethnic groups: the Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba.

According to them, the outfit could be interpreted as a subtle message promoting national unity and cultural harmony.
