Former senior government official Baltasar Ebang Engonga, once notorious for leaked s3xtapes, has been sentenced to eight years in prison by a court in Equatorial Guinea.
The Bioko provincial tribunal found him guilty of diverting government funds meant for official travel into personal use. In addition to the prison term, he was fined $220,000, according to Hilario Mitogo, press director of the Supreme Court.
Engonga, who previously headed the national financial investigation agency, faced trial alongside five other senior officials accused of misappropriating hundreds of thousands of dollars in public funds.
The scandal erupted last November when he was detained during investigations. At the same time, explicit videos of him with multiple women — including wives of other officials — went viral on social media, amplifying the controversy around the case.
