In other news… Mavin Records DJ, Nonso Temisan Ajufo, widely known as DJ Big N, has urged Nigerian musicians to take steps that could enhance their chances of winning a Grammy Award.

At the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, Nigerian artists including Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Omah Lay, and Wizkid were all beaten by South African singer Tyla in the Best African Music Performance category.

Commenting on the outcome via his X account on Monday, DJ Big N suggested that Nigerian artists’ underperformance at the Grammys was partly because they do not actively participate in music seminars and events in the United States.

He encouraged them to follow the example of Beninese Grammy-winning singer Angelique Kidjo by engaging more with American music platforms and being involved in the Grammy voting and decision-making processes.

He wrote, “It stings deeply that so many talented Nigerians were nominated but didn’t bring the Grammy home this time. But here’s the truth, Legends like @angeliquekidjo and @YoussouNdourSN have shown us the power of being involved beyond just the award night.

“She [Kidjo] is at those seminars, those events, making her presence felt. If we want to change the game, we’ve got to do the same. Let’s step up, join the @RecordingAcad voting body and be part of the process all year long. That’s how we truly make our mark. Better luck next year, but let’s also be there to shape it.”
