Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has suspended 87 government officials, including 25 commissioners, 22 permanent secretaries, 14 senior special assistants, and 24 special assistants, for failing to attend an important state event.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Dr. Monday Uzor, the governor described their absence as “gross irresponsibility” and ordered them to hand over to their deputies. The affected officials will also forfeit their salaries during the one-month suspension.
Among those suspended are the Commissioner for Works, Stanley Lebechi Mbam; Finance Commissioner, Prof. Leonard Uguru; and Environment Commissioner, Victor Chukwu.
Governor Nwifuru warned that his administration would not tolerate negligence or laxity, stressing that public officials must take their duties seriously or face tougher sanctions.
