A wedding celebration in India reportedly ended in drama after a groom was allegedly identified as being associated with the kinnar (transgender) community shortly after the ceremony.
The marriage had been arranged six months earlier between a local bride and 22-year-old Rishu, a resident of Pure Ganai village. On February 13, the groom’s baraat arrived in a festive mood, with music, dancing, and a grand reception from the bride’s family. Wedding rituals were completed, and guests settled down after dinner.
However, around 4 a.m., just before the bride’s ceremonial departure (bidai), a group of kinnars from Kadopur reportedly arrived at the venue to collect the customary neg (gift). According to eyewitnesses, they recognized the groom and claimed he had previously been part of their troupe.
The situation quickly escalated. It was alleged that the groom’s family offered Rs 23,000 to the visiting group and asked them to remain silent. When members of the bride’s family requested that the groom step inside for clarification, he reportedly refused, leading to further tension.
Angered by the development, the bride’s relatives detained the groom and alerted the police. However, no formal complaint was filed, reportedly due to social sensitivities surrounding the issue.
Following discussions between both families, the groom’s side allegedly agreed to reimburse the wedding expenses. The baraat eventually returned home without the bride, bringing the marriage to an abrupt end.
