Former Senator and 2023 Kogi State governorship candidate, Dino Melaye, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), blaming the party’s failure to rescue Nigeria from what he called “prevailing political cankerworms.”
In a resignation letter dated July 30 and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 1 in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu LGA of Kogi State, Melaye announced his immediate exit from the party and its activities.
Melaye, a close ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—who also resigned from the PDP earlier this month—is part of the coalition group that recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform.
However, neither Atiku nor Melaye has formally registered as a card-carrying member of the ADC.
“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation,” the letter in part reads
