A popular Nollywood actress has sparked a viral debate after taking to social media to vent her frustration over the heavy traffic caused by “IJGBs” (I Just Got Back) Nigerians returning from the diaspora for the December holidays.
The actress lamented that the influx of visitors has paralyzed Lagos roads, causing her to miss critical appointments for her hair, nails, and lashes. In a stinging critique of the visitors, she questioned their actual contribution to the city’s economy, suggesting they are causing gridlock without spending much.
“I just got back. What is all this? All the road is blocked,” she complained. “It’s not like you brought money. You came empty-handed and still block road. Go back abeg. Carry big big cars come back, empty pockets. Go back.”
The outburst has triggered mixed reactions online, with some residents agreeing that “Detty December” traffic has become unbearable, while others defended the returnees:
