  • In a viral video, he accused the government of misusing funds originally intended for road maintenance and urged fellow activists, including Omoyele Sowore, to resist the policy.

Nigerian activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi, has sparked online reactions after condemning the newly introduced petroleum tax, describing it as an “evil system” designed to enslave citizens.

In a viral video, Farotimi criticized the attitude of Nigerians who, according to him, often accept unfair government policies without resistance. He stressed that it was time to challenge such measures and demand accountability.

“When that law was made, there was fuel subsidy. That money was meant to go to FERMA for the maintenance of federal roads, but they’ve just been chopping the money. Now there’s no fuel subsidy again. Then petrol was like ₦100,” he said.

Farotimi also urged fellow activists and public figures to take a stand against the policy, directly mentioning some by name.

“At this point I’m going to be calling out Yele Sowore, Bello Galadanchi, I’m calling out each and every person who opens their mouth in the public space and say that they are activist. We must resist this fuel taxation. We must resist it,” he declared.

His remarks have since fueled heated debates online, with many Nigerians backing his stance while others expressed doubts over whether resistance would yield any real change.
