Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido (David Adeleke) has revealed that he is stepping away from the ongoing custody proceedings concerning his daughter, Imade, while expressing dissatisfaction with how events unfolded in court.
In a statement posted on X late Friday, the singer dismissed claims that he had pursued full custody of his child. He clarified that his legal request was for joint custody, not sole guardianship.
“I never asked for full custody … I asked for joint custody. Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade … so I don’t know why some pple r celebrating. There’s nothing to celebrate,” he wrote.
Davido explained that he decided to discontinue the case after what he described as an unacceptable development during the hearing. According to him, his late son was mentioned during proceedings something he said deeply upset him.
“I’ve decided to drop the case because … until she brought out her last card! MY DECEASED SON! THAT’S A NO NO! Lowest blow!” he stated.
He emphasized that his involvement in the legal matter was motivated by love and a sense of responsibility toward his daughter, adding that one day she would understand his efforts.
“My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her … let’s move on. One love!” he added.
The singer also addressed the issue on his Instagram story, where he criticised the opposing counsel’s conduct, accusing them of behaving unprofessionally during the session.
“I disgraced you in the courtroom … I was teaching you your work … and then went on to mention my son. Like I said in the courtroom, I pray you never go through what me and my wife have gone through ever,” he wrote.
His comments came after Lagos-based lawyer Maruf Muhammed shared updates online about tense exchanges at the Lagos State High Court in Yaba.
“Davido in High Court, Yaba now! Come and see drama in court. The lawyer made 001 lose his patience during cross-examination o! Be you never so high, the law is above you,” Muhammed posted.
When asked about the case, it was clarified that the court session concerned custody arrangements for Imade.
Recently, Imade was seen spending time with her father after winning a talent competition a moment that excited fans and highlighted both parents’ continued involvement in her life.
The custody matter between Davido and Imade’s mother has continued to attract public attention, with many supporters urging both parties to prioritise peaceful co-parenting moving forward.
