Afrobeats superstar Davido recently honored his late colleague, Sound Sultan, in the music video for his popular track 10 Kilo.
Directed by Director Pink, the video features scenes with Sound Sultan’s portrait as a backdrop, alongside plus-size models dancing in front of it.
Davido’s 10 Kilo, which celebrates plus-size women, bears lyrical similarities to Sound Sultan’s hit Orobo, a song that also highlighted and celebrated fuller-figured women.
In 2013, Sound Sultan released a remix of Orobo featuring Flavour, a track that went on to dominate radio airplay across Nigeria and West Africa.
Since Sound Sultan passed away from cancer in July 2021, numerous Nigerian artists including 2Face, Burna Boy, Spyro, and Sean Tizzle have paid tribute to him on various occasions.
Widely regarded as a pioneer of modern Afrobeats, Sound Sultan’s contributions to the genre include hits like Jagabantis, Natural Something, Ole, Kokose, Orobo, and Very Good Bad Guy, which helped shape and popularize Afrobeats music.
In other news, Big Brother Naija 10/10 housemate, Joanna, has turned down a proposal from fellow contestant, Victory, choosing instead to remain independent.
Earlier, Victory who had previously revealed his interest in Joanna, Gigi Jasmine, and Sultana approached Joanna’s close friend, Rooboy, on Tuesday, asking him to help persuade her to consider a relationship.
Rooboy called Joanna over to join them in the garden and then told her about Victory’s feelings.
Joanna asked why Victory hadn’t told her directly, to which he explained that he didn’t want to put her “in the line up with Gigi and Sultana.”
She admitted she also likes Victory but made it clear she wants to keep her individuality in the house.
