Davido Explains Why He Collaborated With Omah Lay

  • Davido collaborated with Omah Lay after addressing doubts about their relationship.
  • Omah Lay initially thought Davido disliked him.
  • The misunderstanding was cleared when Davido played Omah Lay’s songs during a livestream with Kai Cenat in Lagos.

Afrobeats star Davido has explained how his collaboration with fellow singer Omah Lay came about, revealing that it started after the Soso crooner publicly expressed doubts about Davido’s feelings toward him.

Recall that Omah Lay had previously shared that he believed Davido “hated” him until the DMW boss played his songs during his popular livestream with American streamer Kai Cenat in Lagos last year.

In a video currently making the rounds online, Davido revealed that he decided to reach out to Omah Lay after seeing his tweet, adding that their interaction eventually resulted in their collaboration on With You.

“How Omah Lay and I got together was, Kai Cenat came to Nigeria and I was driving him to the club and then Omah Lay’s song comes up, and he was like, ‘Who is this?’

“I responded, ‘Oh! This is Omah Lay, he is hot.’ And then the next day, Omah Lay tweeted like, ‘Wow! Davido gave me a shoutout on a livestream, I thought he hated me.’ And I Dmed him, ‘Why would you think I hate you? We’ve never met.’

“We eventually, exchanged numbers and we were going back-and-forth with music. We did about four songs and he chose ‘With You’ as the one we would release,” he explained.

With You is one of the standout tracks on Davido’s fifth studio album, 5ive.

The song has also received international recognition, earning a nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
