Cuba Extends Validity Of Physical Tourist Cards Until December 2025 Amid E-Visa Rollout

  • Cuba has extended the validity of the Tarjeta del Turista (tourist card) until December 31, 2025.
  • This extension allows travelers additional time to adapt to the new electronic visa (e-Visa) system.
  • The e-Visa system was introduced in July 2024.

Cuba has extended the validity of its traditional Tarjeta del Turista (tourist card) until December 31, 2025, offering travelers more time to adjust to the country’s new electronic visa (e-Visa) system introduced in July 2024.

No New Physical Cards Being Issued

According to reports, although Cuba has stopped issuing new physical tourist cards, existing ones will remain valid through the end of next year. This marks the second extension, following an earlier deadline shift from December 2024 to June 2025.

e-Visa Now Active, Paper-Based Phase-Out Underway

The e-Visa system forms part of Cuba’s broader strategy to digitize its entry process. The digital visa allows a single entry, valid for up to 90 days, and is extendable within Cuba.

  • Cost: €22 in most countries
  • For U.S. citizens: $50
  • Payment: Offline only (cash, cheque, or bank transfer)
  • Processing Time: A few business days
  • Mandatory D’Viajeros Form

All travelers must complete the D’Viajeros online form within seven days of arrival. This platform collects health, customs, and immigration information, and provides a QR code required for entry. Failure to complete the form could lead to delays at the border.

Streamlining the Visitor Experience

The extended card validity and enhanced digital systems reflect Cuba’s commitment to a smooth transition and better visitor experience. Authorities are working to simplify immigration through updated digital infrastructure, aligning with global travel trends.

This phased approach ensures that those who planned their travels early are not disadvantaged, while also promoting adoption of the new e-Visa system.
