COVID-19: FG to Impose another Nationwide Lockdown.
On Thursday, the Federal Government of Nigeria has said it is trying hard to prevent another lockdown as coronavirus (COVID-19) cases increase in the country.
This was made known by the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire when appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, on Thursday.
According to Ehanire, the federal government would only impose a lockdown on the country as a last resort to curb the spread of the virus.
He said: “The lockdown is always a last resort. It is not the first step that the government takes. If you hear of the countries which had to do lockdown – the UK and many European countries – it was because they were getting figures that were running virtually amok.
“So, the consequence of a lockdown on the economy including the social consequences are such that you do not take that (lockdown) as a first step. So, we are trying very hard to see that it does not come to a lockdown.”
“The compliance and participation of citizens and adherence to all these rules will go a long way in ensuring that we get what we want without extra pain,” Ehanire added.
The Minister pointed out that when Nigerians comply with COVID-19 guidelines, the country will be able to contain the deadly virus.
