The Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, halted proceedings and postponed Naira Marley’s trial on allegations of online fraud.
An adjournment was necessary because the police persisted in refusing to present the defendant, putting the case at a standstill.
The trial of Nigerian musician Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, who is charged with cybercrime, has been rescheduled for November 13 and 30.
The musician is being investigated on 11 counts of conspiracy and credit card theft by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), putting him in the center of legal attention.
Olalekan Ojo, the attorney representing Naira Marley, disclosed during the prior court hearing that the musician was noticeably missing from the proceedings since he was being held by the police, purportedly in relation to Mohbad’s tragic death.
The court was then asked by Ojo to postpone the trial.
To guarantee Naira Marley’s attendance at the upcoming postponed date, prosecution attorney Bilkisu Buhari instructed the court to issue a production warrant against him.
The prosecutor’s requests were granted by presiding judge Nicholas Oweibo, who also issued a production warrant for the defendant.
