Court Releases Scott Iguma on Bail Following Defamation Arrest

Popular media personality and vocal social critic, Scott Iguma, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Ikoyi after spending several days in detention over alleged defamation.

Iguma, widely known for exposing questionable real estate practices in Lagos via social media, was arrested on Wednesday, July 16, following accusations he made against a prominent real estate company. He was charged with four counts, including cyberbullying and criminal defamation.

Arraigned on Thursday, July 17, the court ordered his remand until today, Monday, July 21, when the bail hearing took place. The court later ruled in his favour, granting him bail. Details of the bail conditions have not been made public.

Iguma’s arrest sparked massive reactions online, with many of his followers and human rights advocates describing it as an intimidation tactic aimed at silencing his advocacy against real estate fraud in Nigeria.
