Content creator Scott Iguma has appealed for help on social media after his uncle was kidnapped in broad daylight in Edo State, amidst rising concerns over national insecurity.
Iguma revealed the family’s distress, noting that his uncle was severely injured and sounded weak during a brief communication with the abductors.
Ransom Demand and Police Inaction
The abductors reportedly assaulted the victim before demanding a massive ransom, which started high and was later reduced.
Iguma shared his frustration over the lack of visible action from law enforcement despite promptly reporting the incident:
“Nigeria has happened to me.. as I am speaking to you now, my uncle has been kidnapped in broad day light in Edo state. You see this insecurity, if it hasn’t come to your doorstep you won’t understand what’s going on in this country…we are totally surrounded.”
He confirmed the demands and his uncle’s condition:
“We reported the matter to police and they seem to be doing nothing. The last time we spoke to him, he could barely speak; they had beaten him so hard. They initially demanded 100 million, then later said 50 million Naira.”
Iguma also observed the boldness of the criminals, which he believes reflects the nationwide security breakdown:
“And one thing I noticed about this bandits is that they are extremely bold. Then no dey fear,” he said.
