A Nigerian woman, identified as Irene Ogum Blog, has called on First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu to intervene in the rising cases of online bullying targeting children.

In a viral video, Irene described the First Lady as the “mother of the nation” and pleaded with her to use her office to protect children from what she called “online vipers.”

She lamented that some social media users go as far as tagging newborns with “RIP” captions, posting coffins on their pictures, and laying curses on innocent children due to personal grudges with their parents.

According to her, if one ordinary citizen in the Igbo community was able to influence an end to similar bullying through a public statement, the First Lady has even greater capacity to put an end to the trend nationwide.

She further urged lawmakers to pass legislation specifically protecting children from cyberbullying, rather than focusing only on bills that suppress criticism of public officials.

“It baffles me that in a country with a First Lady, all these things are happening and nobody is talking about it. If offenders are fined, jailed, or punished, they will stop,” Irene stated.
