Popular Nigerian media personality, Daddy Freeze, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following a notable decline in the Naira’s exchange rate against the US dollar.
In recent months, the dollar-to-naira rate has been steadily decreasing. Reports indicate that the rate recently fell below N1,400 per dollar, sparking discussions among Nigerians both locally and abroad.
Sharing his own experience, Daddy Freeze revealed that during a recent visit to a Bureau De Change, he was surprised to learn that the dollar was exchanging for N1,310. He noted that he hadn’t anticipated such a significant drop in such a short period.
The broadcaster credited the improvement to the policies of the APC-led government under President Tinubu. While praising the administration, he cautioned that long-term stability is more valuable than quick gains.
He said:
“I would’ve made more money if I exchanged two weeks ago; it shows that this government is onto something.”
Daddy Freeze further explained that Nigerians benefit more from a stable naira than one that swings dramatically in value. Frequent fluctuations, he argued, can harm businesses and discourage investment.
He elaborated:
“If the dollar drops to 1,300 and then jumps to 1,500, or falls to 800 and rises to 1,200, it disrupts businesses. Imagine importing a product when the rate is 800 naira to a dollar, and later it jumps to 1,200. Even if you sell at a profit, how do you source the same product again?”
He urged the government to prioritize maintaining a predictable exchange rate that allows businesses to plan effectively, whether it settles at N1,310 or N1,500, as long as the rate remains stable.
