Veteran entertainer and activist Charly Boy, popularly known as the Area Father, has responded to Nollywood actor Yul Edochie’s recent statement advocating for a South-Easterner to become Nigeria’s next president.
Edochie’s position marks a notable shift from his earlier support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
In a trending video shared on X (formerly Twitter), Edochie emphasized the need for fairness and equity in Nigeria’s political landscape, stating, “The next President of Nigeria should come from the South East. In fairness and equity. That’s just the truth. That’s how it supposed to be.”
This statement comes as political momentum builds ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Peter Obi of the Labour Party emerging as a leading contender. Obi, who finished third in the 2023 presidential race behind Tinubu of the APC and the PDP’s candidate, has already signaled his intention to run again.
Reacting to Edochie’s video, Charly Boy took to X, writing, “Yul Edochie don finally see the light. Thank God you don dey change lane,” suggesting support for Edochie’s new stance.
