- Reverend Father Chidi Angelo Unegbu, a Nigerian Catholic priest, criticized the public’s focus on trending social media topics like the mid-flight fight between Very Dark Man and Mr. Jollof.
- In a Facebook post, he suggested that these viral incidents are deliberately promoted as “diversionary tactics” to prevent Nigerians from discussing and addressing the country’s serious real-world problems, such as security issues and banditry.

A Nigerian Catholic priest, Reverend Father Chidi Angelo Unegbu, has publicly suggested that certain widely trending topics on Nigerian social media, including the recent physical altercation between social critics Very Dark Man (VDM) and Mr. Jollof on an airplane, are deliberate distractions.
Father Unegbu argued that these viral incidents are being promoted to prevent the public from focusing on and discussing the country’s serious real-world problems.
In a Facebook post shared on Monday, the priest directly addressed the issue of social media focus:
“It seems that some people are deliberately promoting these diversionary tactics on Nigerian social media to prevent people from discussing the country’s real problems. Today, it is fighting on airplanes. Stop falling for all these distractions,” he wrote.
