Canada To Issue 10,000 Parents And Grandparents Program Sponsorship From July 28

  • Canada’s IRCC is reopening the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).
  • The program will start accepting applications on July 28, 2025.
  • Up to 10,000 invitations for sponsorship applications will be issued.

Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced the reopening of its Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), scheduled to begin on July 28, 2025. The department plans to issue up to 10,000 invitations for sponsorship applications.

In a statement released on Wednesday via its official website, the IRCC confirmed:

“Up to 10,000 complete applications will be accepted under this year’s Parents and Grandparents Program. Invitations will be sent out over approximately two weeks starting July 28 to selected potential sponsors.”

The PGP is a key part of Canada’s family reunification strategy, enabling Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents or grandparents for permanent residency. This initiative provides a long-term immigration route, differing significantly from temporary visitor visa options.

Focus on 2020 Applicants Only

This year, the program will not open to new applicants. Instead, the IRCC will prioritize individuals who submitted interest-to-sponsor forms back in 2020 but have not yet received an invitation.

“Those who submitted their sponsorship interest in 2020 and haven’t been contacted should check the email address they used at that time, including spam and junk folders,” the agency advised.

All applications must be completed and submitted online through either the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal, depending on whether the applicant is represented by an immigration consultant or lawyer.

Super Visa Remains an Option

For those not selected in this round, the IRCC recommends considering the Super Visa, a long-term, multiple-entry visa designed for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents. This visa allows stays of up to five years per visit, with the possibility of extending their stay by up to two additional years without needing to leave Canada.

“Individuals not chosen in this year’s draw may explore the Super Visa option, which is valid for up to 10 years and allows extended stays,” the IRCC added.
