Biya made the announcement on Sunday, July 13, via his official X account, writing: “I am a candidate in the presidential election. Rest assured that my determination to serve you matches the urgency of the challenges we face.”
In power since 1982, Biya removed term limits in 2008, allowing him to run indefinitely. If re-elected, he could remain in office until nearly 100.
His rare public appearances and a recent 42-day absence have fueled ongoing concerns about his health, though the government insists he’s fine and bans public discussion of it.
Cameroon under Biya continues to grapple with economic hardship and insecurity.

In a post on her Instagram page, the respected actress warned against marriages where women are treated like slaves, with their ambitions sidelined.
