Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has revealed that the late former President Muhammadu Buhari once personally advised him to focus on the welfare of the poor.

Obi made the disclosure in a now-viral video trending on X (formerly Twitter), where he addressed a group of Nigerians about the importance of compassion, selflessness, and good leadership.

“I had the opportunity of meeting him while io was campaigning and i remember his words please care for the poor Nigerians” Obi said in the video, which has sparked mixed reactions online.

The former governor, known for his frugal lifestyle and focus on economic reform, said the advice from Buhari was one he holds dear. According to him, true leadership must always have the masses at heart.

The clip, which was originally shared by YabaLeftOnline, has been viewed thousands of times and is being praised by supporters who say Obi has always shown concern for Nigeria’s poor and working class.

Obi’s statement comes days after Buhari’s funeral in Katsina, which was attended by several dignitaries, although the Labour Party leader was noticeably absent — a move that has also sparked debates online.
