Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari was recently admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) in London while on a medical trip, according to a report by The Cable.
A close family member confirmed that Buhari fell ill during his stay in the United Kingdom but has since been discharged and is currently recuperating. The specific nature of his illness was not disclosed.
The former president’s health issues come amid reports that his uncle and longtime confidant, Mamman Daura, is also recovering from an illness in the UK.
Buhari’s absence at the 50th anniversary celebration of ECOWAS, held in Lagos on May 28, raised questions. In a letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu, he explained that prior medical commitments in the UK prevented him from attending the event.
Earlier in May, a photo surfaced online showing Buhari with former EFCC chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa during a private visit in London. However, the purpose of the meeting remains undisclosed.
Buhari is expected to return to Nigeria once he fully recovers.
