In other news… A young Nigerian woman working in Cairo, Egypt, has expressed frustration after her brother rejected the ₦50,000 she sent for his wife’s urgent medical care, insisting he expected a much higher sum based solely on the misconception that she is “abroad.”

The woman, the youngest of seven children, explained that despite her limited earnings, she immediately sent what she could after her brother urgently reached out for financial assistance to take his wife to the hospital.

However, her brother dismissed the amount, assuming she had far greater financial resources than she claimed. The woman detailed the stark reality of her living and working conditions to counter the false assumption of affluence:

“I came from a family of 7 and I’m the last. My brother’s wife got sick and he pleaded that he needed money to take her to the hospital. I sent this man N50K. He said he was expecting between 500K to 1 million.”

“Where I wan see am? Dey think say as I dey abroad I dey see money. Na just Egypt I dey. I dey Cairo dey do househelp. I’m sleeping in the kitchen my bags are in the kitchen..De money dey tree I dey pluck am. De worst part of it is that someone sponsored me here and I just finished paying.”

The woman disclosed her financial struggles, noting that she earns approximately ₦230,000 monthly and recently finished repaying the debt incurred for her travel sponsorship, leaving her with minimal savings.
